MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio – Playing at the site of next weekend's indoor national championship event, the No. 13 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team opened its spring season with a 9-0 victory versus Oberlin College on Saturday evening at Mayfield Village Racquet Club.
The Spartans (1-0), ranked 13th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, will serve as hosts of the 2014 ITA National Division III Men's Team Indoor Championship presented by Dickenson Group, LLC.
Four Spartans opened up the 2014 spring campaign at 2-0 with wins in both their doubles and singles matchups.
The doubles pairing of No. 13 regionally ranked senior Eric Klawitter (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) and sophomore Christopher Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) defeated Oberlin's Charlie Marks and Callan Louis, 8-3. Meanwhile, the No. 15 regionally ranked pair of junior Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem) and senior John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton) beat Abraham Davis and Soren Zeliger by an 8-4 tally.
Klawitter, Krimbill and Drougas all won their singles matches for CWRU as well. Krimbill, ranked 11th regionally, defeated Louis, 6-4, 6-3. No. 12 ranked Drougas beat Marks 6-0, 6-1, and No. Klawitter won 6-1, 6-1 over Zeliger.
Seniors Derek Reinbold (Carmel, Ind./Park Tudor) and Ben McClarren (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) rounded out the doubles sweep for the Spartans with an 8-3 win over Ian Paik and Jeremy Lichtmacher. Reinbold also won his singles match over Davis, 6-1, 6-4.
The Spartans open action next weekend versus No. 5 Kenyon College in a rematch of last season's NCAA Championship Tournament Sweet 16 match. All four opening round matches begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 21.
