KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Seeds have been drawn for the doubles portion of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship, and Case Western Reserve University's No. 1 tandem of senior Nicolas Howe (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) and junior John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton) will open play in the fourth match on Thursday, May 23 at Stowe Stadium.
Howe and Healey, ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region, will square off with senior Elliot Kahler and sophomore Ian Wagner of University Athletic Association foe Emory University (Ga.). Kahler and Wagner are ranked second in the ITA Atlantic South Region for a team that advanced NCAA Championship Tournament Third Round.
Overall, 16 teams will compete for the doubles title this weekend beginning at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Finals are scheduled for Saturday, May 25.
Howe and Healey posted a 10-6 record with all 16 of their matches coming at the No.1 position. With a 2-1 performance at the prestigious University Athletic Association Championship in late April, the duo earned second-team All-UAA honors.
The No. 14 nationally-ranked Spartans (22-7) finished the season in the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. The squad reached as high as No. 7 in the national rankings and earned the first team berth to the NCAA Championship in program history. Case's 22 wins also represent a school record.
