  • Drougas Falls in Singles, Healey and Gerber Downed in Doubles at NCAA Championship Tournament

    CARY, N.C. – The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis trio of freshman Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem), sophomore John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and junior Kyle Gerber (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) made history on Thursday as the first players from the program since the late 1970s to compete at the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. However, the trio's national tournament trip was short-lived as Drougas lost in the Round of 32 in singles play, while Healey and Gerber dropped a three-set heartbreaker in the doubles Round of 16 at the Cary Tennis Center.

    INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time since the late 1970s, Case Western Reserve University Tennis will be represented at the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Freshman No. 1 singles player Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem) along with the No. 1 doubles tandem of junior Kyle Gerber (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) and sophomore John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton) have been selected to compete at the NCAA singles and doubles championships, respectively, on May 24-26 in Cary, North Carolina.

    PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Sixty-two Case Western Reserve University student-athletes spanning six athletic teams were named to the 2011-12 University Athletic Association Spring All-Academic team. Within the UAA, All-Academic Recognition is awarded to student-athletes who have completed at least one full year of college study and who carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.300.

    CHICAGO – The No. 21-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team took to the courts on Saturday in a pair of national showdowns with University Athletic Association foes Washington University-St. Louis and the University of Chicago at the Stagg Field Courts. The Spartans grabbed an early lead, but lost to No. 17 Washington U., 6-3, before rebounding to defeat No. 30 Chicago later in the afternoon, 7-2.
