KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team made it a perfect 3-0 weekend in Michigan with a 7-2 victory versus Kalamazoo College on Sunday, February 27 at the Markin Racquet Center.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 4-3 overall in dual matches heading into their spring trip in Charleston, South Carolina on March 7-8. With its victory against the 30th-ranked Hornets, Case is now 2-2 versus nationally-ranked competition this season.
In singles play, Case won four of six matches with victories coming from junior Sean Carr (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) at No. 1, junior Rohan Patel (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) at No. 3, sophomore Richard Brunsting (Nashville, TN/Montgomery Bell Academy) at No. 5 and freshman Eric Klawitter (Arlington Heights, IL/John Hershey) at No. 6.
The Spartans swept doubles play, with freshman John Healey (Columbia, MD/Atholton) and sophomore Nicolas Howe (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights), the sixth-ranked doubles tandem in the region, earning an 8-2 victory at No. 1. At the second position, sophomore Kyle Gerber (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep) and Carr were winners by a score of 8-3. Patel and Brunsting teamed up at No. 3 for an 8-4 decision.
The Spartans open spring trip play on Monday, March 7 versus The Citadel at 2:00 p.m.
