CHARLESTON, S.C. – The nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Division I foe, The Citadel, in the opening match of the team's spring break trip on Monday, March 7 at the Earle Tennis Center.
The Spartans picked up a point at sixth singles from freshman Eric Klawitter (Arlington Heights, IL/John Hershey), who improved to 10-7 on the year by defeating Elliott Sperr 6-2, 6-2. Three other matches were pushed to a full three sets in singles play, but The Citadel managed to hang on for wins in each.
Despite dropping the doubles point, Case also notched a doubles win at the two spot from the tandem of junior Sean Carr (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) and sophomore Kyle Gerber (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep), as they took down James Atkinson and Dillon Berkabile 8-0.
The Spartans fell to 4-4 overall in dual matches with the loss, but are right back in action with two more D-I opponents in Charleston tomorrow. The team will face St. John's University (NY) at 9:00 a.m. and James Madison University (VA) at 2:00 p.m.
