Spartan Men's Tennis Team Defeats Allegheny, 8-1

ERIE, Pa. – The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team defeated Allegheny College (PA) by a score of 8-1 on Friday night, April 1 at Pennbriar Racquet Club in Erie, Pennsylvania. With the win, the Spartans, ranked seventh regionally, improved to 7-6 on the season.

Case will return to the courts Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. for a matchup with Ohio Wesleyan University at the Cleveland Skating Club in Shaker Heights, OH.

Against the Gators, Case dropped the first singles point but rebounded to win the last five matchups. Junior Rohan Patel (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) defeated Mike Provenzano, 6-1, 7-5, at the two spot and was followed by freshman John Healey (Columbia, MD/Atholton), who took a 6-2, 6-3 decision from Jacob Allmaras.

At fourth singles, sophomore Kyle Gerber (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep) took down Charlie Murphy 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Eric Klawitter (Arlington Heights, IL/John Hershey) swept Max Sosa 6-0, 6-0 at the five spot. Another sophomore, Richard Brunsting (Nashville, TN/Montgomery Bell Academy), picked up the last singles point with a win over Nick Darrow 6-2, 6-0.  

The Spartans swept in doubles play, with Healey and sophomore Nicolas Howe (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) leading off with an 8-5 win over Cole and Allmaras. At second doubles, the duo of Carr and Gerber rolled to an 8-3 win, while Patel and freshman Ben McClarren (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Davidson) defeated Murphy and Frank Mosconi 8-2 at the three spot.
