The Case Western University swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, with the men and women both falling to Carnegie Mellon University.
The Spartan men and women each stand at 0-1 in dual meets this season, following Saturday's meet.
Freshman Maria Pritchett headlined the women's performances, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.75 and also claiming the title in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.33. In addition, Pritchett was a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team with junior Caitlyn VonFeldt, sophomore Daniella Rupert and sophomore Sarah Krueger that won the event with a time of 1:40.31.
Sophomore Kelly Moton also added a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.60. Moton then placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.99), while VonFeldt finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (59.76), senior Olivia Picchione placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.85) and freshman Abby Halsdorfer finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.73).
For the men, sophomore Calvin Tecson won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.38. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tecson, freshman Anatole Borisov, freshman Will Bryant and freshman Andrew Smith earned a first-place finish with a mark of 1:27.06.
The Spartans will return to action next weekend, as they travel to Ashland, Ohio to face NCAA Division II opponent Ashland University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2nd.
