The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams competed in a tri-meet in the Veale Natatorium on Saturday afternoon, with the men earning a 196-97 win over Allegheny College, but falling 231-69 against Carnegie Mellon University. The women fell 203-97 against the Tartans.
For the men, junior Aaron Pang finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 52.71 and in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:56.88.
Other second-place finishers for the CWRU men includes junior Oliver Hudgins in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.46) and junior Drew Hamilton in the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.01). The 200-yard freestyle team of Hudgins, Hamilton, senior Andrew Henning and sophomore Brody Schmidt also finished second with a mark of 1:27.81.
Junior Jennifer Eurich headlined the women's performers, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 25.19, while also teaming with sophomores Bhavya Kumaran, Allie Drohosky and Casey Crowley to finish first in the 200-yard medley relay with a mark of 1:50.26. Eurich and Moore also teamed with freshman Rhiannon Reese and sophomore Kelsey Holmberg to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:40.46. Crowley also added a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 2:12.60.
Other second-place finishers for the women included Holmberg in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:56.84) and in the 500-yard freestyle (5:21.42), junior Inez Moore in the 100-yard freestyle (55.11), freshman Olivia Picchione in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.21) and freshman Monica Khare in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.16).
The Spartans will have a pair of meets on the horizon next week, hosting the College of Wooster at 6:30 p.m. in the Veale Natatorium on Friday, November 4th, before heading back on the road to compete against Oberlin College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5th.
