Spartan Men Play to 1-1 Double OT Tie Against Brandeis

Case Western Reserve University junior midfielder Connor Weber gave the Spartans a first-half lead with his first goal of the season, but a late goal by Brandeis University evened the score, as the two team played to a double-overtime 1-1 tie in Oberlin, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

With the tie, the Spartans' record moved to 5-4-3 overall and 0-0-1 in the University Athletic Association, while the Judges now stand at 6-2-4 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.

The two teams battled back and forth in the first half, until Weber gave the Spartans the lead in the 44th minute when he struck a corner kick into the back of the net. The goal was his first of the campaign.

CWRU maintained the 1-0 lead until the 81st minute, when Brandeis' Colin Panarra evened the score, converting the shot off an assist from Noah Gans.

The score remained tied at a goal apiece through the rest of regulation, and neither squad would be able to strike for a 'golden goal' in overtime, resulting the double-overtime tie.

Weber and junior forward Seldon Magruder finished the game with a team-best three shots, while junior defender Nathan Ekberg and sophomore midfielder Sean Atwater each registered a pair of shots. Freshman goalkeeper Jackson Kallen made six saves during the contest.

Case Western Reserve will return to action next weekend when they continue UAA play with home matches on Friday, October 18th against Emory University at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday afternoon game at 1:30 p.m. against the University of Rochester.
