The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest to the New York University Violets on Saturday evening at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, New York.
The Spartans are now 5-4-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the University Athletic Association, while the Violets improved to 4-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the UAA.
New York opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Isaiah Boyd received a cross from Ethan Pizano and tapped it into the goal for his first goal of the season. The Violets added to their lead late in the first half when Sergio Monton launched a free kick from the top of the box that found the back of the net at the 44:27 mark.
NYU capped off the scoring in the 74th minute when Ben Green received a ball from Monton on a breakaway and scored his first goal of the campaign.
Despite the loss, the Spartans held the advantage in shots (16-9) and held the advantage in corner kicks (8-2).
Junior defender Nathan Ekberg led CWRU with three shots, including two goal. Senior midfielder Garrett Winter, junior midfielder Connor Weber, junior forward Seldon Magruder and sophomore midfielder Peter Dernelle each added two shots to the team total.
In net, freshman goalkeeper Jackson Kallen made four saves to run his season total to 20.
Case Western Reserve will return to action next weekend when they continue UAA play as they host Brandeis University on Saturday, October 12th at 1:30 p.m. The game will be played at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
