The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team will hit the road this week for the open of University Athletic Association Play. The Spartans will begin conference play with a road match against New York University in Riverdale, New York on Saturday, October 5th at 8:00 p.m.

CWRU Spartans (5-3-2)
The Spartans dropped a hard-fought 2-1 battle to Marietta College on Wednesday night. CWRU was first to find the back of the net as sophomore Sean Atwater crossed a ball into the six-yard box and junior Seldon Magruder was able to head the ball into the back of the net at the 55:08 mark. However, the Pioneers would go on to score goals in the 78th and 90th minutes of play to secure the victory.
On Saturday, the Spartans scored two goals in the second half to defeat Otterbein University 2-0. Magruder scored CWRU's first goal in the 58th minute via an assist from senior Zachary Senft. The Spartans would add to their lead in the 71st minute when junior Connor Weber crossed a free kick that was headed into the goal by junior Nathan Ekberg.
New York Violets (3-4-1)
The Violets earned a 2-1 double-overtime victory over the visiting Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday. Stevens got out to the early lead as they scored at 5:51 mark of the first half. NYU evened the game at 1-1 at the 86:02 mark when Owen Smith headed a ball off of a corner kick from Sergio Monton that found the corner of the net, forcing the game into overtime. The Violets secured the victory in the 105th minute when Talal Said received a cross from Monton and blasted a ball past the goalkeeper.
During the Coach Bianco era, CWRU holds a 3-2-1 record over New York University with the last Spartan victory coming during the 2017 season.
Junior Seldon Magruder leads the team with eight points on a team-high four goals…Magruder currently ranks tied for first among all University Athletic Association players in goals and ranks tied for second in points…Senior Zachary Senft leads the UAA with 38 shots, while junior Connor Weber ranks tied for third with three assists…The Spartans have totaled 169 shots and 70 shots on goal through its first 10 games of the season…CWRU has held opponents to averages of just 4.6 shots on goal per game, and 12.9 shots per contest.
