Senft Strikes Twice, Including ‘Golden Goal’ to Lift CWRU over Adrian 2-1

Case Western Reserve University senior forward Zachary Senft scored a pair of goals on Saturday night, including the game-winning 'golden goal' with 3:28 remaining in the second and final overtime period, to lead the Spartans to a 2-1 win over Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan.

The win raised the Spartans' record to 4-2-2 on the year, while Adrian dropped to 6-1-0 with the setback.

After a scoreless first half, the Spartans were first to strike as Senft scored his first goal of the season at the 66:32 mark of the second half to give CWRU the 1-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs answered in the 88th minute when Austin Andres scored off an assist from Bredan Koziol. The score would hold for the remainder of regulation and the first overtime period.

In the second overtime period, Senft was able to hit the match clinching score at the 106:32 mark to give the Spartans the double-overtime victory. The goal was Senft's second of the game and 18th of his career.

Senft finished the game with a team-high five shots, including four on goal, while senior midfielder Garrett Winter tallied four total shots, including two on goal.

Freshman Jackson Kallen started his first collegiate game and went the distance for CWRU in goal, improving to 1-0-0 on the campaign. The Spartans defense held the Bulldogs to 14 total shots, with just seven on goal, while CWRU amassed 18 total shots, including 10 on goal.

Case Western Reserve will now prepare to travel to Marietta, Ohio on Wednesday, September 25th to face the Marietta College Pioneers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
