Seventh-Ranked Men’s Soccer Set to Play at Capital; Host Wooster

The seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team is set to travel to Columbus, Ohio on Friday, September 6th to face Capital University for a 7:00 p.m. match, and then will head back home to host the College of Wooster on Sunday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m.

#7 CWRU Spartans (1-0-1)

The Spartans won their 2019 season opener 1-0 on Friday against Heidelberg University. Junior Seldon Magruder accounted for the lone goal, as he found the back of the net in the 17th minute for his first goal of the season and 15th of his career.

CWRU battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with the University of Mount Union on Monday. In the 31st minute of the first, Mount Union's Josh Lewis found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The Spartans would eventually find the equalizer in the 61st minute when junior Connor Weber laced a corner kick from the right side of the field and freshman Rafael Perez headed the ball in the net for the first goal of his collegiate career.

Capital Crusaders (2-0-0)

In their opening weekend of competition, the Crusaders came away with two road victories at the Nate Ferraco Classic at Slippery Rock University. Capital opened with a 1-0 victory over Geneva College in the first overtime period as senior Tristan Bentley scored at 94:12 mark.

The Crusaders then defeated Grove City College, 4-2 on Saturday. Senior Brandon Woo accounted for two of Capital's four goals, as he scored in the 22nd and 77th minutes of game.

CWRU and Capital last met during the second round of the NCAA Championships last season. The Spartans defeated the Crusaders 3-0, as senior Garrett Winter, senior Zachary Senft and sophomore Peter Dernelle each recorded a goal.

Wooster Fighting Scots (0-1-0)

The Fighting Scots fell 1-0 to the University of Mount Union on Saturday. Wooster will host Heidelberg University on Wednesday, September 4th and Washington and Jefferson College on Saturday, September 7th, before they travel to Cleveland on Sunday to face the Spartans.

The Spartans and Fighting Scots last met during the 2015 season, when CWRU defeated Wooster by a score of 2-0.

Sophomore Charlie Fink ranks tied for second in goals-against (1) and goals-against average (0.45), and ranks fifth in save percentage (.800) among all University Athletic Association players….Senior Zachary Senft and sophomore Nathan Ekberg currently ranked tied for second in the UAA with seven shots apiece, while junior Connor Weber ranks tied for first with one assist…The Spartans have totaled 42 shots and 17 shots on goal in its first two games of the 2019 season…CWRU has held opponents to averages of 2.5 shots on goal per game, and 7.0 shots per contest.
