Magruder Scores Lone Goal in #7 Spartans Win Over Heidelberg

Junior forward Seldon Magruder of the seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Heidelberg University at DiSanto Field on Friday evening.

The Spartans improve to 1-0 for the 2019 season, while Heidelberg drops to 0-1 overall.

The goal came early for CWRU. In the 17th minute of the first half, Magruder dribbled the ball down the right side of the pitch and laced a shot into the top left corner of the goal from approximately 20 yards out. The goal was his first of the season and 15th of his career.

The CWRU defense would hold strong for the remainder of the game, as the Spartans secured the 1-0 shutout victory.

The Spartans were on the attack throughout the entirety of the game, with 27 total shots, 10 total on goal and the overall advantage of 27-5. In addition, CWRU held the advantage in corner kicks, 16-3.

Sophomore goalkeeper Charlie Fink went the distance and made three saves. He improved to 1-0 on the campaign.

Case Western Reserve returns to action on Monday, September 2nd as they prepare to welcome the University of Mount Union to DiSanto Field for a 1:00 p.m. match.
