Senior forward Alex Besl of the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team has earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Scholar All-America Third Team for his dual accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
Besl earned United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-North/Central Region Second Team honors yesterday, which made him eligible for All-American status. In addition, he was named to the All-University Athletic Association First Team and earned a spot on the NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Second Team earlier this season.
Besl capped off his Spartan career by posting a strong senior campaign. He finished the year tied for second on the team with nine goals and tallied three assists for 21 points. Besl accounted for three-game winning goals throughout the season, including the game-winner against then ninth-ranked Rochester (N.Y.). For his career, he has tallied 14 goals and registered eight assists for 36 points. Besl earned UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week honors on October 29.
An economics and finance double major, Besl carries a 3.81 cumulative grade point average and has received UAA All-Academic honors three times over his career.
Case Western Reserve advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of the 2018 NCAA Championships, which was the best finish in the history of the CWRU men's soccer program. The Spartans ended their 2018 campaign with a 16-4-2 overall record.
