For the second time this season, junior forward Zachary Senft of the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team has been named the University Athletic Association men's soccer offensive athlete of the week s announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Senft scored three goals and tallied one assist to lead the 19th-ranked Spartans to the sectional round of the 2018 Division III Men's Soccer Championship this past weekend. Senft led the squad with 14 shots throughout the two games, including five of those shots on goal. In Saturday's first round game against Keystone College, he assisted on the first goal of the game that was scored by senior Alex Besl. Senft then scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 79th minute when he received a pass from junior Garrett Winter and poked it past the keeper. He then added an insurance goal in the 89th minute off of a free kick that was just outside the 18-yard box that ticked off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. In Sunday's 3-0 shutout against Capital University, Senft scored the second goal of the game when he launched a shot into the lower right corner of the net for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
For the season, Senft leads the team with 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists. In addition, he ranks tied for first in the UAA with eight assists, tied for third with 10 goals and third with 28 points. This is his second career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
Case Western Reserve improved to 16-3-1 overall with the two wins, and will now host the sectional round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship this weekend. CWRU will welcome 10th-ranked Kenyon College, fourth-ranked Calvin College and Penn State Behrend to DiSanto Field on Friday, November 16th and Saturday, November 17th. The Spartans are scheduled to face Kenyon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while Calvin will take on Penn St. Behrend at 7:30 p.m. The winners will then face each other on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
