#8 Spartan Men Fall in Regular Season Finale at #23 Carnegie Mellon

The eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped their regular season-finale to 23rd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the CMU Soccer Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Spartans see their regular season end at 14-3-1 and 4-2-1 in the University Athletic Association, while the Tartans end their regular season at 11-4-2 overall and 3-4-0 in the UAA.

Carnegie Mellon opened the scoring within the first eight minutes of the game. Jack Painter registered his fourth goal of the season at the 8:06 mark to give the Tartans the early advantage. CMU added to their lead just over three minutes later when Elliot Cohen laced a shot from 20 yards out that found the back of the for his eighth goal of the season.

The Tartans increased their advantage to 3-0 in the 34th minute when Alex Dziadosz recorded his second goal of the season at the 34:22 mark.

CWRU would got on the board at the 42:36 mark when sophomore midfielder Connor Weber launched a free kick from the top of the box that got past the Tartans keeper. The goal was Weber's third of the campaign.

The Spartans would try to even the score in the second half, but the CMU defense would be too much as the Tartans held on for the 3-1 victory.

CWRU held the advantage in shots (10-9), while CMU took the advantage in corner kicks (6-3).

Junior midfielder Garrett Winter and junior forward Zachary Senft led the squad with three shots apiece, while Winter recorded two of his shots on goal.

In net, freshman goalkeeper Charlie Fink made three saves to run his season total to 55.

With the regular season now complete, the Spartans will await the announcement of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship selections, set to be released on NCAA.com on Monday, November 5th at 1:00 p.m. A link to the selection show will be posted to athletics.case.edu once it is made available.
