#21 CWRU Men Fall 3-0 to New York U.

The 21st-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest to the New York University Violets on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Spartans are now 9-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the University Athletic Association, while the Violets improve to 8-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the UAA.

New York opened the scoring in the 34th minute when junior Owen Smith received a cross from senior Alexander Dano and tapped it into the goal for his fourth goal of the season. The Violets added to their lead in the second half when Dano launched a shot from approximately 20 yards out that found the back of the net at the 49:21 mark. NYU capped off the scoring in the 83rd minute when sophomore Maxi Rodriguez gathered a loose ball in the box and shot it into the lower right of the goal.

The Violets held the advantage shots (18-14), but CWRU held the advantage in corner kicks (4-2).

Junior midfielder Garrett Winter, sophomore midfielder Connor Weber and freshman midfielder Peter Dernelle each recorded one shot on goal.

In net, freshman goalkeeper Charlie Fink made five saves to run his season total to 36.

Case Western Reserve will return to action next weekend when they continue UAA play with home matches on Friday, October 12th against Washington (Mo.) University at 5:00 p.m. and a Sunday morning game at 11:00 a.m. against the second-ranked University of Chicago.
