Spartan Men Increase Win Streak to Five as Offense Erupts in 4-0 Win over Heidelberg

Three different Spartans scored on Wednesday night, as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win against Heidelberg University at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Spartans improved to 6-1-0 overall for the campaign, while the Student Princes dropped to 1-4-0. CWRU increased their winning streak to five games, which is the longest since the 2015 season. In addition, the 6-1 record to begin season is the best start for the Spartans through seven games since the 2011 season when CWRU also began the campaign with a 6-1 record.

Junior forward Zachary Senft started the scoring early when he received a cross from junior midfielder Garrett Winter just 33 seconds into the game and laced a shot into the bottom right corner of the net. The goal was Senft's third of the season.

Winter extended lead after he converted a penalty kick at the 9:14 mark. Winter then increased Spartan advantage to 3-0 at the 9:51 mark when he launched a shot from the left side of the box that hit top-right of the net. With the two scores, Winter now has a team-leading six goals on the season.

Sophomore forward Seldon Magruder capped off the Spartans' scoring with his third goal of the season after he headed a perfect cross from senior forward Alex Besl into the back of the goal.

The Spartans outshot Heidelberg 19-8, while also holding a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Charlie Fink earned the win in goal, after making two saves to help the squad notch their third shutout of the season. Sophomore Andrew Engelmeyer played the final 30 minutes of the second half and made one save.

Case Western Reserve will continue their home stand on Saturday, September 22nd when the team welcomes Adrian College to DiSanto Field. The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start.
