Case Western Reserve University Head Coach Brandon Bianco has announced the Spartan men's soccer recruiting class of 2022. The eight incoming players represent five different states.
"It's really exciting to cap our academic year by formally announcing our class of 2022 who will be joining us in August," said Bianco. "Our freshman class will complement a returning group that is talented and excited for the fall season. We look forward to integrating these 8 players into our program and watching them positively affect our environment on the field and in the classroom. This is a balanced, talented class that should impact us greatly this year and into the future."

Sean Atwater (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny)
Club: Steel Town Magic
Intended Major: Statistics or Economics
Reason to Attend CWRU: "I chose Case Western Reserve because it has a great combination of academics and athletics. I feel at CWRU I will be challenged on and off the field. Additionally, being around the team I noticed a great atmosphere, which has me excited."
Bianco on Atwater: "Sean is someone we identified early as a piece we wanted to add to our group. He has the size, technical ability and creativity to be a solid addition to our midfield."
Henry Barnes (Libertyville, Ill. / Carmel)
Club: Chicago Wind
Intended Major: Accounting or Finance
Reason to Attend CWRU: "I chose CWRU because I felt it was the best place to help me achieve my goals and help me take my next steps in life."
Bianco on Barnes: "Henry is someone who attended our camp and he impressed us more and more as our sessions went along. He has a good frame and athleticism that will allow him to play either in the midfield or somewhere along the attacking line."
Peter Dernelle (Alexandria, Va. / Gonzaga)
Club: BRYC Elite
Intended Major: Biomedical Engineering
Reason to Attend CWRU: "I chose CWRU because of its outstanding academic reputation and impressive biomedical engineering program. CWRU will also allow me to continue my academics while playing soccer for a top-notch program in a competitive conference. I am excited about the beneficial internship opportunities CWRU offer and plan to avail myself to its programs for creating students that are ready for the future."
Bianco on Dernelle: "One of the best qualities about Peter is that he comes from winning programs. Gonzaga prep is one of the premier prep programs in the country and BRYC has also had a lot of success. We anticipate Peter bringing his winning mentality to our midfield."
JD Dunn (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel)
Club: Riverhounds Academy
Intended Major: Economics and Political Science
Reason to Attend CWRU: "I was looking for a school that would provide me an opportunity to play on a strong, competitive team at an outstanding university that will help me be successful after graduation."
Bianco on Dunn: "JD is someone who has a really strong foundation of technical skills for the goalkeeper position. He will complement our goalkeeper group well.
Charlie Fink (Akron, Ohio / Revere)
Club: Everest SC
Intended Major: Nursing
Reason to Attend CWRU: "I chose CWRU because of its strong academic reputation and the vast resources available to me as a student. Being able to get a highly valued degree while playing soccer is something I look forward to."
Bianco on Fink: "Charlie is an all-state goalkeeper from the always competitive Revere High School program. He's a good athletic and someone who will be a great fit in the classroom and on the field at CWRU."
Jacob Hall (Overland Park, Kan. / Blue Valley Northwest)
Club: Sporting Blue Valley
Intended Major: Pre-Medicine
Reason to Attend CWRU: "I chose CWRU because I wanted to place myself in an environment that I will be able to succeed and achieve my dream of being a plastic or orthopedic surgeon. I will have the support of my teammates, coaches and other classmates. Also, I joined the CWRU soccer team because I have complete faith we will win."
Bianco on Hall: "Jacob is a goal scorer in the truest form. He is always around the goal and finds ways to put the ball in the net. He is also a tremendous worker and will help lead our press defensively."
Justin Rehklau (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy)
Club: Ohio Premier
Intended Major: Business
Reason to Attend CWRU: "I chose CWRU because of the high level of academics and athletics. It isn't often that you can find these qualities in a school. The CWRU men's soccer schedule also offers top quality opponents each game, which excited me. Along with playing in the top conference in Division III soccer, the travel adds another layer of challenge that I look forward to. The coaching staff and players made me feel right at home the moment I stepped on campus."
Bianco on Rehklau: "Justin is a smart, technical defender that we're excited about joining us. He has the ability to be a solid defensive player while also joining the attack as an outside back.
Tye Williams (Fairfax, Va. / Flint Hill)
Club: Vista Blackwatch
Intended Major: Civil or Aerospace Engineering
Reason to Attend CWRU: "I chose CWRU and the men's soccer team for the ability to combine a challenging academic workload with the demands of collegiate athletics. I also look forward to the comradery of the men's soccer team while competing against the top competition in Division III."
Bianco on Williams: "Tye is an exciting attacking player. He can play anywhere along the front line and is a tricky, confident dribbler that creates danger for opposing defenses. We look forward to Tye impacting the game on the attacking side."
