Men’s Soccer Preps for Non-Conference Game Against #10 North Park

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team will return home for a non-conference game against 10th-ranked North Park University on Sunday, October 22nd at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio for a 1:00 p.m. match.

CWRU Spartans (5-7-2)

The Spartans dropped a hard-fought 2-1 conference battle against WashU on Friday. CWRU got on the board first when sophomore midfielder Zachary Senft received a cross from junior Alex Besl and headed it into the back of the net. The Bears evened the game at 1-1 when Chris Rieger found the back of the net at the 31:11 mark. WashU scored the game-winner at the 50:18 mark when Ben Strozewski scored his second goal of the season.

CWRU dropped a road match against the University of Chicago in overtime, 2-1, on Sunday. The Spartans were the first to strike when freshman forward Seldon Magruder launched a ball past the Chicago keeper for his fifth goal of the season in the 78th minute of play. The Maroons responded in the 85th minute when Max Lopez scored his 14th goal of the season. The score remained 1-1 through the remainder of regulation. In the 97th minute of play, Chicago's Andre Abedian scored the game-winner off an assist from Matthew Koh.

#10 North Park Vikings (12-1-1)

The Vikings handed the University of Chicago its second loss of the season on Wednesday night, defeating the Maroons 1-0. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. North Park the struck early in the second, when Matias Warp scored is his sixth goal of the season at the 46:21 mark. The Vikings defense withstood the Chicago attack for the remainder of the half to secure the non-conference victory.

Spartan Notes

Sophomore Zachary Senft and freshman Seldon Magruder lead the Spartans with five goals apiece, while Senft and junior Alex Besl lead the squad with 12 points each this season…Besl also ranks tied for fifth in the University Athletic Association with four assists…Senior goalkeeper Calvin Boyle ranks first with 69 saves and fourth with a .821 save percentage in the UAA…The Spartans have totaled 223 shots and 90 shots on goal this season…CWRU has held its opponents to averages of just 6.2 shots on goal per game, and 14.6 shots per contest.
