The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a tough match against the seventh-ranked John Carroll University Blue Streaks, 1-0, on Wednesday night at DiSanto Field.
The drop brings the Spartans to 2-2-1 overall this season, while the Blue Streaks improve to 5-0-0 on the season.
The only score of the match came when JCU's Jesse Marinaro found the back of the net via a penalty kick in the 36th minute of play. The goal was his second of the season.
CWRU fought hard all throughout the match. The Spartans took nine of their 13 shots in the first half and came close to scoring on several occasions.
Senior goalkeeper Calvin Boyle wound up with six saves.
JCU outshot the Spartans 16-13 and also attempted two more corner kicks. Freshman midfielder Maximillian Klemm recorded a game-high two shots on goal.
CWRU will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 16th when they host Marietta College on DiSanto Field. The game is slated for a 12:00 p.m. start.
