Senior Michael Balog of the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over the University of Mount Union at DiSanto Field on Friday evening.
The Spartans improve to 1-0 for the 2017 season, while Mount Union drops to 0-1 overall.
The goal came quick and early for CWRU. In just 49 seconds into the game, Balog received a pass from junior Alex Besl and sent one sailing into the back of the net which would hold for the remainder of the game.
The Spartans were on the attack throughout the entirety of the game, with 14 total shots, five total on goal and the overall advantage of 14-12.
Senior goalkeeper Calvin Boyle went the distance and made six saves. He improved to 1-0 on the campaign.
CWRU returns to action on Sunday, September 3 as they will travel to Greencastle, Indiana on the campus of DePauw University for a 1:00 p.m. start.
