Men’s Soccer Preps for Non-Conference Game Against North Park

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team will hit the road for a non-conference game against North Park University on Saturday, October 22nd at 4:00 p.m. at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago, Illinois.

CWRU Spartans (4-7-3)

The Spartans dropped a road match against the Emory University Eagles in double overtime, 2-1, on Friday evening. Emory got on the board first when Moustafa Khattab scored via an assist from Jason McCartney in the 25th minute of play. CWRU responded back in the 44th minute when senior midfielder Jacob Grindel headed in a cross from freshman midfielder Brian Woo. In the 102nd minute of play, Emory's Gabriel Vasconcelos scored the game-winner off an assist from Michael Carragher.

CWRU played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie against the ninth-ranked University of Rochester on Sunday. The Spartans went down early in the second half when the Yellowjackets Mitch Volis scored via an assist from Jeff Greblick at the 49:29 mark. The Spartans finally broke through and tied the game at 1-1 with 19:31 left in the game when senior forward Joshua Prosser bicycle kicked a throw in from junior midfielder Paul Darmstadter into the top left corner of the net. Both defenses would hold strong for the rest of regulation and both overtime periods, as the match ended in a tie.

North Park Vikings (9-4-1)

The Vikings upset bid of UW-Whitewater just came up short in a 2-1 setback on Wednesday night. Whitewater commanded the lead early in the first half when they put away a goal in the 25th minute. North Park responded when Gianfranco DeCarne scored his seventh goal of the season via a penalty kick in the 80th minute. The Vikings couldn't overcome Whitewater's game-winner six minutes later which sent the Warhawks to their 11th win of the season.

Senior forward Joshua Prosser leads the Spartans with six goals for 12 points this season…He currently ranks tied for third in goals scored in the University Athletic Association…Junior goalkeeper Calvin Boyle ranks third with 53 saves and third with a .828 save percentage in the UAA…The Spartans have totaled 167 shots and 69 shots on goal this season...CWRU has held its opponents to averages of just 6.07 shots on goal per game, and 13.6 shots per contest.
