Spartan Men’s Soccer Set to Play Emory and #9 Rochester

The Case Western Reserve University men' soccer team is set to play Emory University on Friday, October 14th at 7:30 p.m. in Atlanta, Georgia and the University of Rochester (N.Y.) on Sunday, October 16th at 1:30 p.m. in Rochester, New York for a weekend of University Athletic Association games.

CWRU Spartans (4-6-2)

The Spartans suffered a tough 3-2 loss against Oberlin College on Wednesday night. The Yeomen were first to get on the board in the third minute of play. CWRU responded at the 25:34 mark when senior forward Joshua Prosser scored via an assist from senior midfielder Jacob Grindel to make the score 1-1 heading into the half. In the second, the Spartans scored in the 53rd minute when junior forward Alex Keller-Biehl scored off a cross to give him his first goal of the season. Junior defender Jack Rademacher and sophomore midfielder Jacob Phillips were each credited with an assist. The Yeomen responded with two more goals in the 61st and 84th minutes of play to secure the win.

CWRU battled to a 0-0 tie in double overtime on the road versus Brandeis University on Saturday. Junior Calvin Boyle made four saves in goal for the Spartans. Phillips recorded a game-high four shots, while Grindel and junior Michael Balog each tallied three shots.

Emory Eagles (7-3)

The Eagles went 2-0 last week with a 3-2 overtime win against Birmingham-Southern College and a 2-1 win against Washington (Mo.). Junior Jason McCartney scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime to defeat Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday night. Emory scored their two goals against Washington in the second half on Saturday. The first came in the 63rd minute when junior Austin Mirabella netted his first goal of the season. The second came in the 87th minute when sophomore Moustafa Khattab beat the goalkeeper on a breakaway to give Emory a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.

#9 Rochester Yellowjackets (7-1-2)

The Yellowjackets lost to #2 ranked University of Chicago 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Rochester struck first in the game, getting a goal from senior Jeff Greblick in the 16th minute. The Maroons responded back with two goals in the second half to remain unblemished on the season.

Senior forward Joshua Prosser leads the Spartans with five goals for 10 points this season…He currently ranks tied for fourth in goals scored in the University Athletic Association…Junior goalkeeper Calvin Boyle ranks third with 38 saves and fifth with a .826 save percentage in the UAA…The Spartans have totaled 145 shots and 56 shots on goal this season…CWRU has held its opponents to averages of just 5.58 shots on goal per game, and 12.9 shots per contest.
