Spartans Drop Tough Battle 2-1 to NYU

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 conference battle against the New York University Violets on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field.

CWRU is now 4-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the University Athletic Association, while NYU advances to 4-3-2 and 1-0-0 in the UAA.

The Violets were first to find the back of the net. In the 62nd minute of play, Drew Enyedi headed in a corner kick from Ricardo Mitrano for his second goal of the season.

The Spartans tied up the game during the 65th minute of play. Freshman midfielder Marques Manta scored his first goal of the season off an assist from junior forward Michael Balog.

NYU would then score off of a corner kick in the 86th minute of play and hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Spartans held a 17-7 advantage in shots, but NYU led in corner kicks, 7-2.

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team will travel to Oberlin, Ohio to take on Oberlin College for their last non-conference match of the season at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
