The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team recorded a 2-0 shutout, scoring a goal in each half, against University Athletic Association opponent Emory University on Friday night under the lights at DiSanto Field.
The Spartans advance to 10-2-1, 2-1-0 UAA, while the Eagles drop to 7-4-1, 2-1-0 UAA.
In the first, with less than five minutes remaining the Spartans found the back of the net. Sophomore midfielder Paul Darmstadter took a free kick from the left side of the net and sent it curving into the top right corner past the goalkeeper's reach. The Spartans would maintain the 1-0 edge through the end of the half.
Just within the 83rd minute of play, the Spartans struck for their second goal. Junior midfielder Jacob Grindel sent a pass across the box that met the feet of freshman midfielder Noah Kleedtke. Kleedtke drove the ball into the lower back corner of the net to secure the win for the Spartans.
The Spartans return to action at DiSanto Field on Sunday, October 18 at 1:30 p.m. for a UAA showdown against the University of Rochester (N.Y.).
