CHICAGO – Sophomore forward Matthew Zembas (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley N.W.) scored twice as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeated University Athletic Association foe University of Chicago by a score of 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Stagg Field.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 6-4-4 overall and 1-2-1 in the UAA. The Maroons fall to an overall record of 7-4-1 and 2-2-0 in conference play.

Case dominated the opening period and got on the board quickly when sophomore midfielder Chris Cvecko (Erie, Pa./McDowell) played a wonderful pass to Zembas, who flicked a shot over the Chicago keeper from 10 yards out at 19:34.

The Spartans would add two quick-fire goals later in the half at 30:01 and 31:44. Sophomore forward Logan Glosser (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) sent a cross into the box to set up Cvecko for the first score, and junior defender Taylor Fletcher (Missouri City, Texas/Strake Jesuit College Prep) headed a corner from junior midfielder Ryan Finstad (Rochester, Mich./Rochester Stoney Creek) into the back of the net for the second.

Five minutes into the second period, Zembas added his second goal of the match and sixth of the season following a through ball from Cvecko at 50:46.

Chicago upped the pressure following the goal, but Case was able to weather the storm as freshman goalkeeper Frank Candau (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) stopped all three shots he faced to earn the shutout.

Statistically, Chicago finished with the advantage in shots (16-14) and corner kicks (8-6), but Case led in shots on goal by a 7-3 tally.

The Spartans finish out the 2013 season with three-straight home games, beginning with a Friday, November 1 match against Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.). Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at DiSanto Field.
