WILMINGTON, Ohio – Sophomore midfielder Chris Cvecko's (Erie, Pa./McDowell) first-half goal was not enough as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team (4-1-3) suffered its first loss of the 2013 season by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night at Wilmington College (3-6-1).

Wilmington took the lead in the 22th minute when Daniel Wicks beat freshman goalkeeper Ari Lewis (Jericho, N.Y./Jericho) following a set piece situation. The lead would not last long though, as the Spartans would equalize just five minutes later.

Cvecko scored his third goal of the season at the 26:46 mark when he converted a penalty kick after a Wilmington foul in the box. The goal was Cvecko's third goal of the season, putting him in a tie with freshman midfielder Jacob Grindel (Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University) for the team lead.

Despite tying the game, Case's defense would again be breached, this time 10 minutes into the second half when Wicks scored his second goal of the match. The Spartans would threaten the Wilmington lead late in the game when sophomore forward Logan Glosser (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) forced the Quaker goalkeeper into a good save with three minutes to play.

Overall, Case held a slight advantage in shots, 11-10. The teams were even in shots on goal (4) and corner kicks (1).

The Spartans will look to return to their winning ways on Tuesday, October 1 when they travel to Hiram College for an 8:00 p.m. kickoff.
