CLEVELAND, Ohio -- All-American senior forward Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) scored a pair of goals, the first of which set a school career record, as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team evened its University Athletic Association record with a 2-0 victory versus Brandeis University on Sunday.

The Spartans improved to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the UAA, while Brandeis dropped to 7-3-1 and 0-1-1 UAA.

Bell's UAA-best 14 goals this season give him 37 for his career -- surpassing the mark of 35 set by former Academic All-American and current Spartan assistant coach Kevin Bigart (2005-08).

The record-breaking goal came at the 40:56 mark when Bell dribbled into the box after collecting a loose ball near midfield and fired a shot into the net from 18 yards out.

The score remained 1-0 until the 83rd minute when Bell struck again -- this time on a tapper from six yards out following a nice double-touch by senior midfielder Mark Ilhan (Westlake, Ohio/Lutheran West) and freshman forward Patrick O'Day (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior).

Bell now has 34 points on 14 goals and six assists, while O'Day is second on the squad with 19 points on eight goals and three assists.

In goal, senior keeper Ben Yabrow (Marietta, Ga./George Walton Comprehensive) recorded five saves for his third shutout of 2011. Blake Minchoff made six stops in the loss for the Judges.

The Spartans are back in action with a pair of UAA home matches next weekend, starting with Emory University (Ga.) on Friday, October 14 at 5:00 p.m. Case also hosts rival Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 11:00 a.m.
