Vinny Bell (9) scored his second career "hat trick" to lead the Spartans to victory.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – All-American senior forward Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) recorded his second career "hat trick" and freshman Patrick O'Day (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) tacked on a score and an assist as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team improved to 4-0 for the young season with a 4-0 victory versus visiting cross-town rival John Carroll University on Sunday, September 11 at Case Field.

Bell recorded his first career three-goal game in a 3-2 win versus rival University of Chicago (Ill.) on October 17, 2010.

Case takes its unbeaten record on the road next week with a non-conference match at Baldwin-Wallace College on Wednesday, September 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Berea.

With the loss, John Carroll drops to 1-4 overall.

The Blue Streaks began the contest with constant pressure on the Case defense recording the first three shots during the first four minutes of the contest. However, the Spartans turned the tide and responded with consistent pressure of their own. That persistence paid off when the hosts got on the board in the 22nd minute as Bell scored following a touch by O'Day and a through ball from the first-year Spartan. Bell made the score 2-0 nearly 19 minutes later when he gathered an errant clearing attempt by the Blue Streak defense and laced a shot from nearly 25 yards out that hit the right post before ricocheting into the net.

Following the halftime break, O'Day scored in the 43rd minute when senior midfielder Kyle Alsup (Avon, Ohio/Detroit Country Day (Mich.) sent a through ball to O'Day, who calmly tapped the ball with pace beating the John Carroll keeper to the lower right corner for his fifth goal of the season.

Bell completed the "hat trick" in the 72nd minute when he once again stole a would-be clearing attempt by John Carroll. He turned and fired a shot from the right side of the pitch from 30 yards away into the top left corner of the Blue Streak net. The three-goal performance gives Bell a team-leading six scores through four contests.

In goal, Spartan senior Ben Yabrow (Marietta, Ga./George Walton Comprehensive) picked up four saves in 76:20 of action to improve to 4-0 for the year, while junior Ryan Koepka (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) logged the final 13:20 of action with three saves. John Carroll's Carl Contrascier also totaled three saves for the Blue Streaks in 60:33, while Geoff Bloom played the final 29:27.

Through four contests, Case has outscored its opponents by a 12-2 count and holds a 69-30 advantage in shots.

Also of note, the game was delayed for 1 hour, 24 minutes due to lightning in the area.
