Spartan Men’s Soccer Defeats Heidelberg, 1-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory versus visiting Heidelberg University on Saturday, September 25 at Case Field.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 4-2-2 overall and will return to action this Wednesday, September 29 at Ohio Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m. in Delaware. With its loss, Heidelberg falls to 5-2.

The Spartans got on the board in the first half when senior midfielder Phil DeBauche (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair) scored his first goal of the season in the 32nd minute. Sophomore midfielder Rene Silva (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) set the score up following a cross from sophomore midfielder Eric Erb (Worthington/Thomas Worthington).

Heidelberg threatened to tie the game with just over five minutes remaining, but junior Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA/George Walton Comprehensive) made a fine save to preserve the 1-0 victory.

In goal, Yabrow recorded four saves to earn his second shutout of the year. Heidelberg's Mike Kenny totaled four stops.

For the game, the Spartans outshot "The Berg", 14-5, and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Following Wednesday's game at OWU, the Spartans open University Athletic Association play at Brandeis University (MA) on Saturday, October 2.
