Spartan Men’s Soccer Seniors Key in 6-0 Victory Versus Westminster

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Four different seniors scored as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team earned a 6-0 victory versus Westminster College (PA) on Seniors' Night on Saturday, October 23 at Case Field.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 9-4-3 overall and will return to action on Friday, October 29 at University Athletic Association foe Carnegie Mellon University (PA) at 7:30 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With its loss, Westminster falls to 3-9-3.

The Spartans got on the board in the 22nd minute when sophomore midfielder Eric Erb (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) scored on a cross shot from 10 yards out via an assist from junior defender Niro Wimalasena (Mason, OH/William Mason).

Case added to its lead in the 55th minute when senior midfielder Jordan Fox (Bexley, OH/Bexley) headed in a goal following a free-kick from Erb.

The Spartans made it 3-0 in the 68th minute when senior midfielder Phil DeBauche (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair) scored unassisted. The lead grew to 4-0 when senior midfielder Aaron Lucas (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) drilled a shot from 15 yards out in the 75th minute.

DeBauche added a second goal in the 78th minute following a double-assist from senior forward Mikey Schmid (Oberlin, OH/Oberlin) and Lucas. Schmid then added a score of his own via a Lucas assist in the 89th minutes as the Spartans scored a season-high six goals.

In goal, junior keeper Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA/George Walton Comprehensive) played 78:17 of shutout soccer to earn the win before being relieved by sophomore Ryan Koepka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township). The shutout was Yabrow's fourth of the season. Westminster's Mike Codita made six saves in goal and allowed four of the Spartans' six scores.Case outshot Westminster 24-1 on the evening and took eight corners to Westminster's one.
