Khela Named UAA Athlete of the Week

Case Western Reserve University senior guard Monty Khela was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for Men's Basketball, after averaging 25.0 points per game during Spartan wins over Rochester and eighth-ranked Emory last weekend.

Khela was the league's leading scorer over the weekend, making 18-of-30 shots overall (60.0%) and nine-of-15 from three-point range (60.0%), while connecting on all five of his free throw attempts. He added 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and a steal during the two games.

During Friday night's 88-87 win in overtime against Rochester, he scored 20 points on an eight-of-13 shooting effort, while making four of six three-point attempts and collecting a pair of rebounds. On Sunday, he guided the Spartans to an 83-78 win against eighth-ranked Emory, scoring 30 points (the best individual effort in the conference during the weekend), while making 10-of-17 shots overall, five-of-nine from behind the three-point line, and all five of his free throw tries. He also collected four rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal.

For the season, Khela is averaging 11.2 points per game on 47.8% shooting overall, including a 43.5% mark on three-point tries.

The Spartans have won five of their last seven games, improving to 13-11 overall and clinching their first winning record since the 2014-15 campaign. Case Western Reserve will wrap-up its 2019-20 campaign on Saturday, February 29 against Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
