CWRU Returns Home on Tuesday to Face Denison

The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team will look to break its three-game losing streak when the team hosts Denison University on Tuesday, November 26. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

CWRU SPARTANS
After winning its first two games of the season at home, Case Western Reserve (2-3) dropped three straight road contests, including an 82-75 loss to John Carroll last Wednesday and a 77-62 loss to Kalamazoo on Saturday. So far, the team is averaging 75.8 points per game on 39.5% shooting. The Spartans make 32.4% of their shots from three-point range and 65.8% of their free throw attempts, and have allowed 80.2 points per contest. Senior guard Monty Khela leads the squad with 11.2 points per game, with junior guard Antonio Ionadi adding 10.8 points per game. Leading the team in rebounds (6.7 per game), steals (2.3), and assists (2.7) is senior forward Michael Hollis

Coaching the Spartans is fourth-year Head Coach Todd McGuinness, who has compiled a 31-49 record at CWRU. Previously, McGuinness coached for seven years at Hartwick College and owns a 145-121 career record as a head coach. He is assisted by Mike Fitzpatrick, Greg Van Pelt, and T.J. Duckett.

DENISON BIG RED
Denison rallied for two home wins last week to bring its overall season record to 2-2, including a 0-1 record on the road. The Big Red defeated Capital 80-74 last Wednesday and Otterbein 70-69 on Saturday. The team averages 67.3 points per game, while allowing 69.8, and is shooting 41.3% from the field and 32.1% from three-point range. Junior forward/wing Conor Fenton is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. First-year guard Will Hunter dishes out 3.8 assists per game, and sophomore guard Kevin Cheng adds 3.5 assists per game.

Bob Ghiloni is coaching Denison for the 18th season, leading the Big Red to a 181-266 record, including two NCAA tournament appearances during his tenure. He is assisted by Chris Sullivan and Stu Hartenstein. 

The Spartans and Big Red have faced off 48 times since the first year of CWRU basketball in 1970-71, with the overall series tied 24-24. The teams played an overtime thriller last season, with Denison prevailing 80-79 in Granville, Ohio on a last-second layup.  Junior guard Michael Volkening led the Spartans with 14 points in the game, while Monty Khela (13), Ryan Newton (12) and Antonio Ionadi (10) also scored in double figures in the loss.
