Case Western Reserve University sophomore guard Ignas Masiulionis was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for men's basketball, after helping lead the Spartans to a 1-1 record at the 2018 HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami Shores, Florida.
Masiulionis came off the bench in both games, averaging a team-high 21.0 points per game, shooting 43.8% (14-of-32) overall, 40.0% (10-of-25) from the three-point line, and four-of-five from the free throw line. He added 4.5 rebounds per game, a block, an assist and three steals during his 51 total minutes of action.
He scored a career-high 26 points during the Spartans' 88-69 loss to 13th-ranked Plattsburgh State, including 20 in the second half alone, finishing the game shooting nine-of-22 overall (40.9%) and six-of-16 from three-point range (37.5%), while adding three rebounds and three steals. The day prior, he helped lead the Spartans to an 80-70 win over Widener with 16 points on a five-of-10 shooting effort, including four-of-nine from behind the three-point line, and collected six rebounds with a block and an assist.
Masiulionis is averaging a team-best 12.8 points per game this season on 39.4% shooting overall and 37.0% on long range tries, while adding 2.6 rebounds and a Spartan-best 1.4 steals per game. This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week award of his career. This week's UAA Athlete of the Week award was based on all games from December 17th through January 1st.
Masiulionis and the Spartans stand at 7-4 overall for the 2018-19 season. Case Western Reserve will open conference play this weekend, traveling to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 5th to face Carnegie Mellon University at 4:00 p.m.
