The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team suffered an 87-48 setback to Ohio Northern University in the final game of the Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday, hosted by Mount Saint Joseph College in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The loss dropped the Spartans to 1-4 on the year, while Ohio Northern improved to 2-1.
Freshman guard Antonio Ionadi led the team with 10 points, while sophomore guard Sam Hansen added nine. Sophomore forward Michael Hollis scored five points with five rebounds, and freshman forward Austin Lavitt came off the bench to tally a team-high nine rebounds.
The Spartans fell behind early on Sunday, trailing 23-12 just eight minutes into the contest. A 7-0 run, capped off with a three by Hansen with 9:20 to play in the period, got the Spartans back to within four, 23-19. However, a 15-0 run by the Polar Bears over a four-minute stretch helped build their lead to as many as 19 points in the first half, before closing put the frame with an 18-point lead, 44-26.
Ohio Northern would go on to pull away in the second half, taking their largest lead of the game in the closing seconds of play.
The Spartans will return home to Horsburgh Gymnasium for a 3:00 p.m. game against Adrian College on Saturday, December 2nd.
