Men’s Basketball to Host Denison Tuesday Night

The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team will wrap-up a three-game home stand to start its season on Tuesday, November 21st, when the Spartans play host to Denison University at Horsburgh Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.

Case Western Reserve suffered a pair of losses at the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Tournament last weekend to open its season, despite a strong offensive showing.  The team averaged 109.0 points per game, shooting 44.2% from the floor and 37.1% from long range, despite allowing 117.5 points per game over the first two contests.  Five players are averaging over 10 points a game so far, including sophomore forward Connor Nally (21.0 points, 9.0 rebounds), freshman guard Antonio Ionadi (20.0 points), freshman guard Ignas Masiulionis (19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds), sophomore forward Michael Hollis (13.0 points, 9.0 rebounds) and sophomore guard Monty Khela (11.5 points).

Head Coach Todd McGuinness is in his second season at CWRU.  He has a career record of 122-91 (.573 winning percentage), which includes a seven-year stint at Hartwick College, where his teams qualified for the NCAA Championships on four occasions.  McGuinness is assisted by Rudy Kirbus, Kelly Blair, Liz Hornberger, Evan Shang and Aleksandar Zivic.

Denison Big Red
Denison opened its season with a 2-1 overall record, with wins over Otterbein (76-69) and 23rd-ranked Cabrini (90-70) and a loss to Mary Washington (70-57).  The Big Red have averaged 74.3 points per game on 47.4% from the floor and 37.5% from three point range, while allowing 69.9 points per game.  Leading players for Denison include senior wing Maxwell Siwik (12.0 points), sophomore guard Jack Coulter (10.7 points), senior guard Garrett Collier (10.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists) and sophomore post Fred Brou (10.0 points).

Denison is under the leadership of Head Coach Bob Ghiloni, who is in his 16th season with the team and has a career record of 159-236.  He is assisted by Chris Sullivan and Stu Hartenstein.

Matchup History
In a series that dates back to the 1973-74 campaign, the Spartans hold an all-time edge, 24-22 over the Big Red.  Last year, CWRU suffered an 85-75 setback to Denison in Granville, despite a strong 13 point, nine rebound performance from current senior T.J. Duckett.

Case Western Reserve players have recorded three double-doubles during the team's first two games… On Friday, both T.J. Duckett (10 points, 14 rebounds) and Ignas Masiulionis (19 points, 10 rebounds) each tallied a double-double on Friday against Frostburg State, while Connor Nally (29 points, 10 rebounds) recorded one on Saturday against Greenville… Newcomers to the CWRU roster are averaging 69.5 points through the first two games, good for 64% of the team's total… The Spartans have a +18.5 rebounding margin over their first two games… With his 10-point effort on Friday night, Duckett surpassed 500 points for his career… He is also 16 rebounds shy of 400 for his time as a Spartans… Nally is 13 points shy of 200 for his career.
