Spartans Fall 82-71 To Carnegie Mellon in UAA Finale

CLEVELAND - Senior post Dane McLoughlin (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down eight boards as the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team concluded its season with a 82-71 loss on Senior Day against University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University.

Joining McLoughlin in double-digits was junior guard Matt Clark (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University), who posted 15 points. Senior wing Julien Person (Paris, France/Second Baptist,Texas) added four assists, three steals, and two blocks.

The Tartans were led by Jack Serbin with 22 points and 16 rebounds and Seth Cordts with 22 points and three assists. Jasen Blakney and Chris Shkil each added 11 points.

Clark gave the Spartans their first lead of the game, 18-16, on a layup with 9:13 remaining in the first half. Despite five ties and six lead changes in the opening half, the Spartans fell behind by as many as eight points with 2:11 left in the half on a free throw by Serbin and entered the intermission trailing 35-28.

At 18:55 in the second half, junior point guard Jimmy Holman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) hit two free throws to cut the Tartan lead to one point, 35-34.

The Spartans conclude the season 15-9 overall and 6-8 in the UAA, while the Tartans move to 14-11, 5-9 UAA.
