    Following one of the most successful seasons in the program’s history last year, the Case Western Reserve University football team will enter the 2018 season looking to defend its Presidents’ Athletic Conference and University Athletic Association Championships, and make a second-straight appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs.

    The Spartan Club, in coordination with the Case Western Reserve University Department of Athletics, has announced its 2018 Hall of Fame Class - Esther Erb Atkins (Cross Country/ Track & Field, CWRU ‘08), Aaron Johnston-Peck (Cross Country/ Track & Field, CWRU ‘07) , Santo Maimone (Football, CWRU ‘06), Lauren Preyss Erickson (Women’s Swimming & Diving, CWRU ‘07), Pat Rodjom (Men’s Swimming & Diving, CWRU ‘07), heritage selection John Davin (Basketball & Golf, CIT ‘60), and special category inductee M. Frank Rudy (CIT ‘50).
  • 2018 PAC Media Day: #23 Spartans Picked to Finish Second in Conference

    The 23rd-ranked Case Western Reserve University football team was picked to finish second in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in a poll of the league’s coaches and sports information directors and local media, conducted at the PAC Media Day on Thursday afternoon at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

    The Case Western Reserve University football team placed eight of its senior members in the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society, based on their athletic achievements during the 2017 season, and their academic achievements over their collegiate careers.
  • Calhoun to Receive Prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

    Case Western Reserve University senior Cody Calhoun (Columbus, Ohio / Bishop Watterson), a safety and kick returner for the football team, was selected as one of the 29 men’s fall sport recipients of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, which recognizes student-athletes with plans on attending graduate school for their athletic and academic achievements, along with their work in the community and demonstrated leadership.

    Case Western Reserve University and President Barbara R. Snyder inducted 47 new members into the Van Horn Society, which recognizes student-athletes at the University who have recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 or higher and have an academic standing of juniors or seniors at the University.

    Case Western Reserve University junior wide receiver Justin Phan was named the final University Athletic Association Football Athlete of the Week of the 2017 season, after his strong performance during the team’s 45-16 loss to the second-ranked University of Mount Union in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday in Alliance, Ohio.

    Case Western Reserve University (11-0, 8-0 PAC, 2-0 UAA), ranked 16th in Division III, will be making its second-ever appearance in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships, when the team travels to Alliance, Ohio to take on the perennial DIII football power and second-ranked University of Mount Union (11-0, 9-0 OAC) on Saturday, November 25th at 12:00 p.m.

In addition, CWRU Head Coach Greg Debeljak and his assistant coaches were selected as the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for 2017.

    Case Western Reserve University senior running back Aaron Aguilar battled both blizzard-like conditions and one of the top rushing defenses in the country, running for a career-high 136 yards and three touchdowns to lead the 16th-ranked Spartans to a 28-0 win over 11th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in Bloomington, Illinois.

    Case Western Reserve University senior quarterback Rob Cuda was selected as the 2017 Presidents’ Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player, while Head Coach Greg Debeljak was named the conference’ Co-Coach of the Year, as 17 total Spartans were named to the All-PAC teams, as voted on by the league’s 11 coaches and released on Tuesday afternoon.

    Following Case Western Reserve University’s 41-34 overtime win at Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday afternoon, the key punt block late in the fourth quarter of the game was named the D3football.com Play of the Week, while junior wide receiver Justin Phan, and senior linebackers Zach Lyon, Andrew Banathy and Justin McMahon all earned conference Player of the Week honors.

    In arguably the most exciting game in the rivalry’s history, 14th-ranked Case Western Reserve University defeated Carnegie Mellon University 41-34 in overtime in the 32nd-Annual Academic Bowl to clinch an undefeated regular season, a share of the 2017 Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship, and the University Athletic Association Championship outright.
