As part of our 'Spartan Stories,' each Thursday, we'll be taking a look at some of the top moments for each CWRU team during the 2019-20 year. Today, we'll be going back to November 9, 2019 for the CWRU football team's clinching of sole possession of the PAC Championship.
Needing a win in one of their final two games after clinch at least a share of the title the prior week with a victory against Bethany, the Spartans topped Waynesburg University 27-24 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Junior Travis Johnston returned the game's opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, and also ran for a score in the game. Sophomore quarterback Drew Saxton added a rushing touchdown in the win and threw for 239 yards, including 94 to junior wide receiver Colt Morgan.
The outright PAC Championship was the first in the program's history, and its second league title overall, along a split title in 2017.
