Morgan & Wadas Named Final UAA Football Athletes of the Week of 2019

Case Western Reserve University junior wide receiver Colt Morgan was named the University Athletic Association Offensive Athlete of the Week for Football, while junior linebacker Skyler Wadas was selected as the conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week, for their play during the 25th-ranked Spartans' 24-21 loss at 13th/14th-ranked Union College in the first round of the NCAA postseason in Schenectady, New York on Saturday.

Morgan finished the game with 14 catches for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  He gave the Spartans a 7-0 lead with 9:44 remaining in the second quarter with a 30-yard scoring grab, and then caught a 15-yard touchdown pass with 6:23 left in the half to extend the Spartans' lead to 14-0.  He completed the season with 89 receptions (one short of the program record) for 1,186 yards, breaking the program record for receiving yards in a campaign, previously set by Zach Homyk in 1,165 in 2010.  In addition, his 15 touchdown catches were the second-most in program history (behind only his own program-record 18 in 2018) and he extended his own program record to 34 career touchdown catches.

Morgan, an All-PAC First Team honoree, ended his junior season ranked fourth in program history in career receptions (173) and fifth in career receiving yards (2,315).  This was the third UAA Athlete of the Week honor he has received this season and the fifth of his career.

Wadas led the team in tackles on Saturday, finishing the game with eight total, including three solo.  In the second quarter of the game, he picked off a pass on third and short and returned it 46 yards, setting up a CWRU score on the next play that extended the team's lead to 14-0 at the time.  It was the first interception of his career.

Wadas finished the season fourth among CWRU players with 64 total tackles.  This was his first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.

The Spartans went 9-2 overall in 2019, including an 8-1 mark in Presidents' Athletic Conference games to claim the first outright conference title in program history, and second title overall.  The NCAA postseason appearance was the fifth in the program's history.
