Brown, Johnston & Morgan Recognized by PAC & UAA

Case Western Reserve University senior defensive end Cameron Brown and junior linebacker Travis Johnston were named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, while junior wide receiver Colt Morgan was selected as the University Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, after the trio helped lead the 20th-ranked Spartans to a conference-clinching 35-14 win over Bethany College on Saturday.

Brown broke the school record for career sacks during the win, finishing the game with five tackles (three solo), including a sack, two tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble.  The sack gives him 9.5 for the season, increasing his career total to 33.5 and pushing him past former Spartan Dale English (2008-11) for the most in the program's history.

Brown has 37 total tackles this season, including 15.5 for a loss, and has forced six fumbles during the campaign.  This was his second PAC Player of the Week honor of the season, and the sixth of his career.

Johnston was a jack-of-all-trades on Saturday for the Spartans.  On special teams, Johnston blocked a punt with the game tied in the third quarter, helping the Spartans score the eventual game-winning touchdown on the ensuring drive.  He also punted three times for an average of 37.0 yards, including placing two inside the 20-yard line, and returned two kicks for an average of 18.0 yards.  Johnston rushed the ball eight times for 20 yards and two touchdowns on offense, and on defense, registered seven tackles, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.

Johnston is second among all Spartan players this year with 54 tackles and leads the team with three fumble recoveries, and is averaging 22.3 yards on kick returns.  This was his second PAC Player of the Week honor of the season, and the first time he has earned the award for his play on special teams.

Morgan finished the game against Bethany with eight catches for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns, matching the program's career record for touchdown receptions.  He caught a 13-yard touchdown pass with 1:30 remaining in the first half to tie the game at 14-14, and then snagged an eight-yard scoring grab with 6:20 remaining in the contest to put CWRU up by three touchdowns.

He now has 57 catches for 795 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, and his 31 career touchdown catches tie him with David Kallevig and Shaun Nicely for the program's all-time record.  This was the second-straight week he has earned the UAA Athlete of the Week award, and the fourth time over his career he has been bestowed with the honor.

Case Western Reserve locked up at least a share of the 2019 PAC Championship with Saturday's victory over Bethany, improving to 8-0 overall and to 7-0 in the PAC.  The Spartans can secure the outright PAC Title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships associated with it with a win at Waynesburg College on Saturday, November 9th.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
