CWRU’s Lease & Brown Secure Weekly Honors

Two members of the Case Western Reserve University defensive line were recognized for their performances during a 37-6 win over Thiel College on Saturday night, as senior Andrew Lease was named the defensive tackle on the Team of the Week, and senior defensive end Cameron Brown was selected as both the Presidents' Athletic Conference and University Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week.

Lease finished Saturday's game with four total tackles (two solo), including two sacks and 2.5 tackles for a loss.  One of his sacks was a safety in the fourth quarter of the game, increasing CWRU's lead to 30-0 at the time, and setting up the team's final touchdown of the game on the ensuing drive.  Lease now has 11 tackles this season (four solo), including 2.5 sacks and 3.5 for a loss (both career-highs).

This was the first Team of the Week honor for Lease.

Brown registered 3.5 sacks in the game (one shy of his own program single-game record) and 5.5 tackles for a loss.  He totaled a team-high eight tackles (six solo), while also forcing and recovering a fumble in the second quarter.  For the year, Brown leads all CWRU players with 4.0 sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss, while totaling 11 tackles and two quarterback hurries.

Brown, the reigning PAC and UAA Defensive Player of the Year, has now garnered PAC Player of the Week honors five times, and UAA Athlete of the Week honors on six occasions.

The Spartans improved to 3-0 on the season with the win over Thiel, including a 2-0 mark in PAC games.  Case Western Reserve will return home this weekend for a key matchup against Westminster College (4-0, 3-0 PAC) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5th at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
