CWRU Football Players Recognized by D3football.com, PAC & UAA with Weekly Honors

Case Western Reserve University sophomore wide receiver Colt Morgan and senior defensive end Cameron Brown were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, and recognized as both the Presidents' Athletic Conference and University Athletic Association Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, following their performances during the team's 37-7 win over Saint Vincent College on Saturday afternoon.

In addition, sophomore punter and kick returner Chase Witte was named the UAA Special Teams Player of the Week, and freshman quarterback Drew Saxton was selected as the PAC Rookie of the Week.

Morgan recorded the most receiving yards in a single game by a wide receiver at any NCAA level (FBS, FCS, II or III) on Saturday, finishing the game with a program-record 281 receiving yards, blowing past the previous record of 222 yards, previously set by both Dave Wooley in 2002 and Brendan Lynch in 2016.  He also matched a program record with 15 receptions in the game, and caught three touchdown passes, giving him a program-record 14 for the season.  During the second quarter of the game alone, he caught nine passes for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

For the year, Morgan has caught 52 passes for 758 yards (12th in Division III) and 14 touchdowns (second in Division III).  He becomes the third CWRU receiver ever to be named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, joining Zack Homyk (week 11 in 2010) and Lynch (week 3 in 2016), while earning PAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career, and UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week selection for the second-week in a row.

Brown tallied 4.5 sacks during the Spartans' win over Saint Vincent, the most in a single game by a Division III player this season.  Brown totaled six tackles (five solo), forced a fumble with a strip sack in the third quarter, recovered a fumble in the first quarter, and added a quarterback hurry in the game.  His 4.5 sacks in the game accounted for a total of 18 yards lost for the Bearcats' offense.

Brown has 29 total tackles (15 solo) this season, including 11.5 tackles for a loss (21st in Division III and first in the PAC with 1.9 per game), 9.0 sacks (fifth in Division III and first in the PAC with 1.5 per game) and a team-leading four quarterback hurries.  Brown was also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week in 2016 (week 8), and has now secured two PAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and three UAA Defensive Player of the Week awards over his career.

Witte averaged 37.2 yards per punt during the win, punting four times for 149 yards, including a career-long 45 yard punt and one punt inside the opponents' 20-yard line.  He also returned one kick in the game for 22 yards.  For the season, he is averaging 34.9 yards per punt, including a pair inside the opponents' 20-yard line, and has returned 10 kicks for an average of 22.0 yards per return.  This was his first UAA weekly honor of his career.

Saxton recorded his third-straight 300 yard passing game and his fourth total this season, completing 22-of-32 passes (68.8%) for 348 yards and four touchdowns without an interception during the game, despite playing just one drive in the second half.  He did most of his damage in the second quarter, completing 12-of-20 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns, and finished the first half with 294 yards.  For the season, Saxton has completed 69.3% of his passes for 23 touchdowns with just four interceptions, and his 1,945 passing yards are just 43 away from the program's single-season freshman record.  He currently ranks fifth in Division III in passing efficiency (182.1) and passing touchdowns, eighth in passing yards, and 10th in completion percentage.  This was his fourth PAC Rookie of the Week award this year.

The Spartans improved to 5-1 overall with the win, including a 4-1 mark in PAC games, good for second place in the conference standings.  Case Western Reserve will be back in action this weekend, traveling to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to face Geneva College at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20th.
