Saxton Earns PAC & UAA Weekly Honors

Freshman quarterback Drew Saxton of the 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University football team, was named the University Athletic Association Football Athlete of the Week for Offense, and the Presidents' Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, after his standout performance during the Spartans' 49-23 win at Grove City College on Saturday night.

Saxton completed 24-of-34 passes in the game, including each of his first seven and 12 of his first 13.  He finished the game with 361 yards, the 11th-most in a single game in program history, the second-most ever by a freshman, and the highest total by a CWRU quarterback since Joey Baum threw for 363 yards against Oberlin on October 9, 2010.  He threw five touchdown passes in the game, one shy of the program's single-game record.

Saxton currently leads the PAC with a 68.1% completion percentage (19th in DIII), 23.5 completions per game (24th in DIII), 297.5 passing yards per game (21st in DIII), and 18.0 points responsible for per game (38th in DIII).  The two honors marked his first conference player of the week awards, after being named the PAC's Rookie of the Week on September 4.

The Spartans improved to 2-0 on the season overall and to 1-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play with Saturday's victory.  Case Western Reserve will return home to host Thiel College this weekend, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.
