Case Western Reserve University will be hosting 'Student Saturday' at the Spartans' home-opening football game against the University of Rochester at DiSanto Field on September 1st, including a chance for students to win a 40-inch flat screen television with a successful 35-yard field goal kick.
A large crowd is expected at DiSanto Field, as the Spartans kick off their 2018 campaign on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The season follows one of the most successful years in the program history, as the team went 11-1 in 2017, winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference and University Athletic Association Championships, recording the fifth undefeated season in the program's history, and reaching the second round of the NCAA Playoffs.
At halftime, a CWRU student drawn at random will have a chance to kick a 35-yard field goal. Should the student make the kick, they will win a new 40-inch flat screen television.
CWRU students can register for the contest at the football game starting at 6:30 p.m., and up until the end of the first quarter under the balcony at the Wyant Athletic & Wellness Center. The drawing will take place at the start of the second quarter, and the selected student must be present when their name is announced in order to participate. In addition, only current CWRU students are eligible to participate in the contest, and a valid CWRU student ID is required to register.
Also as a part of 'Student Saturday,' the Varsity Club at the Wyant Athletic & Wellness Center will be open for all students, with free snacks and beverages available, in addition to a great view of the game from the balcony.
Student groups are also invited to represent their organizations with signs and banners at the game, and to help form the tunnel that the football team runs through as they enter the field. Student groups interested in participating in the tunnel should meet under the scoreboard at 6:40 p.m.
Other events at 'Student Saturday' include:
- New Case Western Reserve University Provost and Executive Vice President Ben Vinson III and his children taking part in the coin toss
- Performances by the Spartan Marching Band and the dance team
- CWRU Upperclass Tailgate from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the House 6/7 courtyard with games, food and fun
