McMahon Garners PAC & UAA Football Defensive Player of the Week Awards

Case Western Reserve University senior linebacker Justin McMahon was named the Defensive Player of the Week for both the Presidents' Athletic Conference and the University Athletic Association, after leading a dominating defensive effort for the 17th-ranked Spartans during their 45-7 win at Geneva College on Saturday night.

McMahon finished the game with a team-high 10 tackles (three solo), including 1.5 for a loss, and returned a recovered fumble 68 yards for his first career touchdown.  His scoring play occurred on the last play of the first quarter, helping the Spartans extend their lead to 21-0.  The team co-captain also led a defensive effort that held the Golden Tornadoes to just 236 yards of total offense, while limiting the leading rusher in Division III to just 53 yards on the ground.

The 10 tackles were a season-high for McMahon, who leads the team with 39 total tackles (15 solo) this season.  The awards were the first career conference player of the week honors for McMahon.

Case Western Reserve improved to 7-0 overall with the win, including a 6-0 record in the PAC.
