CWRU’s Henderson & Burke Claim Weekly Conference Honors

Case Western Reserve University junior defensive lineman Ian Henderson was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for both the Presidents' Athletic Conference and the University Athletic Association, while senior running back Jacob Burke was named the UAA Offensive Player of the Week, after both turned in standout performances during the 18th-ranked Spartans' 42-10 win over Grove City College on Saturday at DiSanto Field.

Henderson led the team in tackles on Saturday with eight (two solo, six assisted), while also recording a sack, 1.5 tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles.  He added a quarterback hurry, and forced a strip sack in the third quarter of the game.  For the season, Henderson has 11 tackles (tied for third on the team) and his 1.0 forced fumbles per game lead the PAC and are fifth among all Division III players.

This was the first career PAC and UAA Player of the Week honor of his career, and marked the third time a CWRU player has been named the PAC's Defensive Player of the Week since the Spartans joined the conference as a football affiliate member prior to the 2014 campaign.

Burke ran the ball 24 times on Saturday for 104 yards, and matched a program record with four rushing touchdowns.  He scored a touchdown in each of the four quarters on two one-yard runs, a four-yard run, and a 12-yard run.  It was the fifth time in program history that a CWRU player has rushed for four TDs in a game, and Burke became the first Spartan to accomplish the feat twice over a career.  For the season, he has run for 160 yards and ranks 12th in Division III with five rushing touchdowns.

This was the third UAA Athlete of the Week honor of Burke's career, after claiming the award for his play on offense on September 27, 2016, and for his special team effort on October 26, 2015.

The Spartans improved to 2-0 on the year with Saturday's win, including a 1-0 mark in PAC games.  CWRU will be back in action under the lights at DiSanto Field on Saturday, September 23rd against Waynesburg University, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
