Brown & Phan Garner Conference Weekly Honors

Case Western Reserve University sophomores Cameron Brown and Justin Phan were named the University Athletic Association Football Athlete of the Week for Defense and Special Teams, respectively, while Brown was also named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, following the team's 37-14 win over Bethany last Saturday.

Case Western Reserve University sophomore defensive end Cameron Brown led a solid defensive effort by the Spartans on Saturday, collecting a career-high 10 tackles during the team's 37-14 win at Bethany College on Saturday.  Brown finished Saturday's win with a career-high 10 tackles, including three solo tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, and half a sack, while also breaking up one pass.  His play helped lead a Spartans defense that held the Bison to just one offensive touchdown, coming late in the fourth quarter, and limited Bethany to just 70 rushing yards and 77 passing yards.

For the season, Brown has 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks, and leads all Spartans with 5.5 tackles for a loss.  He became the second Spartan this season to be named the PAC Rookie of the Week, and it marked the third-straight week a CWRU player has garnered UAA Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Phan returned six punts for an average of 17.5 yards on Saturday, playing a key role in the field position battle during the game.  He retured a pair of punts into Bethany territory, including a game-high 33 yard punt return during the first quarter of the game.  Phan also caught a career-high seven passes in the game for 64 yards and a touchdown.

For the season, he is averaging 13.2 yards per punt return, the 26th-best mark among Division III players, and has caught 23 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns.  It marked the second time this season he has been named the UAA Special Team Player of the Week.

With Saturday's win, the Spartans improved to 5-0 overall, including a 4-0 mark in PAC contests to remained tied for first place in the conference with 14th-ranked Thomas More College.  Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Saturday, October 15th at 1:00 p.m., hosting Thiel College at DiSanto Field for the University's annual Homecoming Game.
